18 Jul Leadership Tip #4: Own Your Energy
Everything is energy.
“Everything is energy, and that’s all there is. Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way.” – Albert Einstein
While there is some discussion whether Einstein really made this exact quote, we are 100% clear he gave us E=mc2, or Energy (E) = matter (m) multiplied by the speed of light (c) squared. We, as humans, are made of matter. Our potential amount of energy is equal to our weight (our matter) times the speed of light squared. What this tells us is we have more energy available than we will ever be able to utilize. Yet, so often we complain about not having ENOUGH energy. In this moment, all you need to do is be willing to accept that you are made of energy and that the amount of energy available to you is virtually limitless. So how do we tap into this energy, and why do we feel so drained all of the time?
Think about a time where you pulled an all-nighter to get something important done. Perhaps you stayed up all night talking with someone who you felt incredibly connected to. Both are examples of you tapping into your internal energy. What determines how much energy is available is dependent on our thoughts. Negative thoughts lower our vibration and decrease the amount of energy we have available. Positive thoughts raise our vibration and increase the amount of energy we have available.
If a day at the office has you so worn out that all you can do is come home and sit on the couch, then you likely need to do one of two things – change how you are thinking about your job or change your job. I’d start with option one.
Here is what I mean by owning your energy. If you have negative thoughts about your job, you will bring low energy to the environment, and I guarantee your job will suck. If you walk into a meeting that you’ve already determined is going to go bad, you will bring low energy to the meeting, and unless someone else brings higher energy that you feed off of, then the meeting will also suck. If the meeting was good, be real with yourself and recognize it was because of someone else’s energy and not yours. The good news is that it CAN be yours.
I was doing some coaching and my client was telling me how she dreaded opening her email in the morning. She was so sure that all sorts of awful things had happened overnight, and she would be bombarded. That thought would create that sinking feeling of doom in the pit of her stomach as she anticipated the absolute worst. Nothing had happened yet, however, she was already feeling like crap. Clearly her vibration and energy were low as she braced for the awful that was sure to come. At this point it didn’t matter what was in her inbox. She had already robbed herself of many moments of joy worrying about something that may or may not be in there. Where in your life are you doing that too?
Now, instead, when she sits down to open her inbox she thinks “how will I be surprised and delighted today?”, which raises her vibration. Before she ever opens the inbox she is in a state of joy. She chose that for herself. And sometimes there are emails that align with that joy. And in the off chance that there is something not as positive, because she is in a raised vibration, instead of creating gloom and doom, she taps into her energy, deals with the issue and moves forward.
Own your energy when you walk into the office. Own your energy when you walk into a meeting. And please, please, PLEASE own your energy when you walk into your house at the end of the day and greet your family. If you allow what has happened at the office to impact how you are with your family, then you are allowing someone else to control your energy. Energy is a moment by moment thing! If your energy is low in this moment, as soon as you intentionally change what you are thinking, you take ownership. Practice today by being purposeful in exactly how you are entering any situation.
Bring positive and watch what happens!
